Behind The Design

Our collaboration with Lela Rose came about as Lela was planning for her most recent book, Fresh Air Affairs, “all about entertaining with style in the great outdoors.” In the book, Lela shares a variety of beautiful outdoor setups in Texas, New York, and Wyoming, where both she and Coral & Tusk designer, Stephanie Housley live.
The limited-edition embroidered designs were all created with a “cameo” motif where the main image is surrounded by a corresponding border, telling a story of each location. Pore over the stitched details while you host your own get-together or enjoy your linens every day at home.
Dinner Napkin: In our very special New York design, Lela’s Norwich terrier, Bobbin, steers a vintage motorcycle with Coral & Tusk mascot Fox in the sidecar. Accented with silver metallic thread, the adorable duo takes a ride around Central Park.
Measures 20" × 20". Folded measurement 10" × 10"
Attention to Detail
Our dinner napkins begin as blank canvases. After each napkin is hemmed, our production partners stitch each one individually on their embroidery machine. Once the embroidery is complete, a skilled seamstress finishes each napkin by trimming the threads by hand. The napkin is then folded and pressed. This entire process can take up to three hours for a single napkin.

Material:
- Embroidered on 100% linen.
- Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Certified.
- We use linen that is made from 100% unbleached and undyed natural flax fiber. There is an inherent beauty in the shade variation from one crop to another.
Care:
- Linen is an incredibly durable fabric, and can be laundered in many ways. Over time, linen softens with multiple washes, enhancing the texture of the fabric. If you prefer a natural linen look, feel free to machine wash on a delicate cycle, and line dry your favorite Coral & Tusk napkins. To keep your linens crisp and smooth, consider spot clean treatments or dry cleaning.

In Stitches: The Enchanted World of Coral & Tusk
Featured in Oprah's Top 10 Best Gift Books!
"In Stitches: the Enchanted World of Coral & Tusk" is an exploration of the story, craft and creative process of Coral & Tusk founder and artist Stephanie Housley, sharing a life's work of drawing and embroidery inspired by cherished memories and her joyous appreciation of the natural world.
Every collection begins with abundant research, drawing from a wide variety of inspiration.
Stephanie first creates her irreverent characters and bold pattern designs by putting pencil to paper. Every collection begins with abundant research and each individual design stems from her original hand-drawn illustrations.
Stephanie then scans her original drawing, creating a digital file. She redraws the design, stitch by stitch, using specialized software.
Once her designs are digitized, Stephanie connects with our partners in India to begin production. Together they work to perfect each design, finalizing layouts and colors. Our partners in India implement ethical working conditions and provide fair wages.
Once the design is perfected, it is machine embroidered in India by our embroidery partner of over ten years. The large scale embroidery machines make it possible for us to scale Stephanie’s creative process with the flexibility of small production runs.
Nearly all of our products are embroidered on 100% unbleached and undyed linen, avoiding the pollutants found in standard textile dying practices and reducing water consumption. Our linen begins as a flax plant in Lithuania and is then wet spun into yarn at an ISO 9001 company in West Bengal, India, before arriving in Bangalore, India for weaving. All of our linen fiber is Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Certified, confirming that it does not contain any harmful substances or chemicals.
Sewing is the final step of our production process. Every Coral & Tusk embroidery is transformed into the final product by our long-time tailors who expertly hem and stitch every piece for you to enjoy in your home.
