Stephanie on celebrating her mother and the moms in our lives this Mother's Day.
If a picture says 1,000 words then this photo of my Mom holding me (on my 5th birthday) speaks volumes about how much I adore her and clearly demonstrates our close and deep bond. Looking at the way my hand is resting on her chest exemplifies my foundational stability as a kid.
I think one of my Mom's main measures of her personal success was (and is) based on what kind of healthy, happy, balanced childhood she was providing me with (and later my brothers.) She removed all fears and worries and filled me instead with security, safety, love, and the belief in the magic of all things. She put so much into making everyday special, not only building amazing memories of events, but also a cumulative bank of small consistently joyful simple moments, so that I would be able to see the world through a very grounded and optimistic lens.
She continues to observe and celebrate the tiny wonders of the everyday, teaching me to notice and be thankful for the many experiences we are privileged to enjoy. She is the definition of unconditional love, always putting us kids before anything else and certainly way before herself. She is an exceptional human being, and I am inexplicably grateful to be her daughter. I cannot think of a better place to have showed up on this planet outside of her arms.
I hope each of you are able to celebrate mamas this year, whether that is in the traditional sense, or untraditional, in person, or over the phone, with your actual mom, or the mother you found and chose in life. If you are a mama, HERE'S TO YOU! Thank you for all the effort you put into doing your best to shape our future through your parenting!
