Halloween Styling How-To

Halloween is a time to shine for moody moments throughout the home. Dig into our styling guide for how we create a curated, chic and spooky atmosphere!

Halloween cabinet styling with embroidered candy bucket, lit candles, and Batterfly doll

Start styling

It can be quite frightening to think about decorating the entire house, so breaking down areas into small vignettes helps to keep it fun and easy! It also allows the eye to move from “scene to scene” in a nice way.

For the foyer, we made these two moments- one is a cabinet surface, above, and the other is the small corner with a vintage rocking chair, below. For the cabinet, we wanted varying heights of the objects and a really stunning scene for when you first open the door. Baby pumpkins, antique books, a glass vial and brass candlestick holders with lit candles and dripping wax all set the scene. Switching out the candles for LED flameless lights for easier maintenance is perfect, too. We added in our adorable Batterfly doll, Haunted House lit with a tealight LED, and bucket to keep candy for visitors! The vintage sea painting, tarnished mirror and broom head take it to the next level.

In the corner, of course we had to add a black cat pillow with a smaller pocket pumpkin with pal in the rocking chair, and next to it a basket to store a throw, plus jack-o-lantern basket for a candy stash, and again just to vary the heights nicely. The jack-o-lantern also works perfectly on tabletops as a fun piece that could house small salt and pepper shakers or some led candles.

Living room

With almost every space we style, there’s going to be texture, pattern and odd numbers of things! The back pillow is a block print in a deep indigo and black colorway which makes a great contrast to our stitched linen Haunted House pocket pillow and new Graveyard pocket pillow. They are definite conversation starters and such a playful treat for your room.

A cozy throw is always useful and again we brought some brass ochre candles and baby gourds and pumpkins to finish the look off.

Children's room

In the kids room we added black square throw pillows for a spooky feel and contrast in color but also for a different shape layered against our rectangular 12” x 16” Full Moon Masquerade pillow and 8” Batterfly doll. On Halloween night the bucket gets stuffed with their candy haul but for the rest of the season it’s a cute small storage decor piece!

More tips from the team:

*On shelves or cabinets books can be turned sideways to make any object at a higher level

*Small groupings help decor to look intentional and not messy

*We scour Ebay, Etsy, vintage shops and estate sales for special props like old children’s books, tarnished candlestick holders and snuffs, and oil paintings
