Behind The Design
To celebrate our new book "In Stitches: the Enchanted World of Coral & Tusk" we created a new limited edition design, the Mushroom House! Our Mushroom Forest embroidery comes to life as a miniature home stitched with enchanting details and surprises. The mushroom cap is crafted from vermilion orange felt. Peek inside the circular windows and see the fanciful interior with mushroom lamps and chandeliers, along with supplies for gardening and adventure. The base of the mushroom is stitched inside and out. Squirrel, fox, and rabbit forage for morels among ferns and flowers. Complete the Mushroom House with our Mushroom House Guests set.
Light up the Mushroom House with your own electric tea light, not included. Do not use open flame candles.
Measures 13.25" × 8.5".
Attention to Detail
The Mushroom House and the coordinating Woodland Guests begin first as felt prototype mock-ups by Stephanie in her studio. Working closely with our partners in India, Stephanie then confirms the size and shape of each panel that will construct the final house and dolls. Once she knows the measurement of each piece required to construct the final products, she draws the embroidered configurations. It can take up to twelve hours for all of the panels of the house to be embroidered on a machine, overseen by a skilled operator who manually changes threads each time the color changes. Once the embroidery is completed, an additional four hours is required to assemble and sew each house together. The Woodland Guests take about an hour each to be embroidered and sewn.

Every collection begins with abundant research, drawing from a wide variety of inspiration.
Stephanie first creates her irreverent characters and bold pattern designs by putting pencil to paper. Every collection begins with abundant research and each individual design stems from her original hand-drawn illustrations.
Stephanie then scans her original drawing, creating a digital file. She redraws the design, stitch by stitch, using specialized software.
Once her designs are digitized, Stephanie connects with our partners in India to begin production. Together they work to perfect each design, finalizing layouts and colors. Our partners in India implement ethical working conditions and provide fair wages.
Once the design is perfected, it is machine embroidered in India by our embroidery partner of over ten years. The large scale embroidery machines make it possible for us to scale Stephanie’s creative process with the flexibility of small production runs.
Nearly all of our products are embroidered on 100% unbleached and undyed linen, avoiding the pollutants found in standard textile dying practices and reducing water consumption. Our linen begins as a flax plant in Lithuania and is then wet spun into yarn at an ISO 9001 company in West Bengal, India, before arriving in Bangalore, India for weaving. All of our linen fiber is Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Certified, confirming that it does not contain any harmful substances or chemicals.
Sewing is the final step of our production process. Every Coral & Tusk embroidery is transformed into the final product by our long-time tailors who expertly hem and stitch every piece for you to enjoy in your home.
