Behind The Design

Fowls stick to the ground and with their familial flock. Their naturally patterned plumage symbolize unity and togetherness. Each feather design serves as a reminder to cherish and respect the avian creatures of land, flight, sky and air. Dress your table with our found feather tea towels, napkins and table runner.

Measures 25" × 18" unfolded. Measures 12.5" x 6" folded.

Our tea towels begin as blank canvases. After each tea towel is hemmed, our production partners stitch each one individually on their embroidery machine. The Fowl Feather ttea towel is composed of about 13,000 stitches. Once the design is embroidered, a skilled seamstress finishes each tea towel by hand, trimming the embroidery threads. The tea towel is then folded and pressed into the final product we send to your home. The entire production process can take up to two hours for a single tea towel.

Material & Care

Material:

  • Embroidered on 100% linen.
  • Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Certified.
  • 無漂白、無染色の亜麻を100%使用しています。リネン特有の風合いを損なわないよう素材感そのままを生かしています。

Care:

  • Linen is an incredibly durable fabric, and can be laundered in many ways. Over time, linen softens with multiple washes, enhancing the texture of the fabric. If you prefer a natural linen look, feel free to machine wash on a delicate cycle, and line dry your favorite Coral & Tusk tea towels. To keep your linens crisp and smooth, consider spot clean treatments or dry cleaning.

Our Process

Every collection begins with abundant research, drawing from a wide variety of inspiration.

Step 1. Start with a story.

Stephanie first creates her irreverent characters and bold pattern designs by putting pencil to paper. Every collection begins with abundant research and each individual design stems from her original hand-drawn illustrations.

Step 2. Drawing to Digital.

Stephanie then scans her original drawing, creating a digital file. She redraws the design, stitch by stitch, using specialized software.

Step 3. Connecting threads.

Once her designs are digitized, Stephanie connects with our partners in India to begin production. Together they work to perfect each design, finalizing layouts and colors. Our partners in India implement ethical working conditions and provide fair wages.

Step 4. Bring it to life.

Once the design is perfected, it is machine embroidered in India by our embroidery partner of over ten years. The large scale embroidery machines make it possible for us to scale Stephanie’s creative process with the flexibility of small production runs.

Step 5. From fiber to cloth.

Nearly all of our products are embroidered on 100% unbleached and undyed linen, avoiding the pollutants found in standard textile dying practices and reducing water consumption. Our linen begins as a flax plant in Lithuania and is then wet spun into yarn at an ISO 9001 company in West Bengal, India, before arriving in Bangalore, India for weaving. All of our linen fiber is Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Certified, confirming that it does not contain any harmful substances or chemicals.

Step 6. Stitch it up.

Sewing is the final step of our production process. Every Coral & Tusk embroidery is transformed into the final product by our long-time tailors who expertly hem and stitch every piece for you to enjoy in your home.
