As 2019 winds down we want to take a moment to look back on our favorite highlights from the year. This year we traveled to Japan, introduced four new collections, launched a brand new website and so much more! See our full 2019 Year in Review here.
Coral & Tusk in Japan
We kicked off the year in JAPAN! In January Stephanie and Asumi traveled to Tokyo for two weeks. We taught an embroidery workshop in Fog Linen’s beautiful Tokyo space. In the class, students learned different stitches to create their own animal pal for an exclusive pocket pillow designed by Stephanie. Another exciting event included a welcoming party hosted by our Japanese stockist H.P. Deco. At the party interior stylist, Kanae Ishii gave a talk.
Our trip culminated with a very special award! Tokyo hosts an annual calendar contest and our Panasonic Homes calendar collaboration was nominated among many other creative calendars. Our calendar was selected by the Prime Minister of Japan himself as the winner of the contest. We were so honored to be chosen among so many amazing nominees.
In February we launched our spring Fruits collection which included brightly stitched table linens, pillows and stationery. We debuted the collection at the Shoppe Object tradeshow in NYC and our fruits were featured in Cowboys & Indians magazine.
NYC Team Retreat
Our Wyoming team members traveled east for our first ever NYC based retreat in March. Yukti, our Production Partner, traveled all the way from India to attend! It was so special to have our entire team in one place. We visited our local stockists, enjoyed many delicious meals together and spent time collectively writing the Coral & Tusk company mission statement. We can’t wait for our 2020 reunion!
Chairloom X Apartment Therapy Pop-UpIn April we were thrilled to participate in the second annual Textile Tent Revival hosted by Chairloom and Apartment Therapy. We were honored to exhibit alongside 20 other designers at the Brooklyn event and inform visitors about our fabrics and trade program. It was a great weekend filled with textiles, old friends and new ones!
New Geometric Designs
In June we introduced our new line of Appliqué pillows! Each pillow in the collection is crafted with an innovative appliqué technique, stitching two tonal fabrics together with the signature, hand-drawn embroidery unique to Coral & Tusk. The designs pay homage to elements of architecture and ornamental textiles. The Appliqué pillows were featured in Architectural Digest and Mountain Living, and on ADPro!
Shoppe Object 3.0We’ve participated in the Shoppe Object tradeshow since the very first one in 2018. This past August may have been our favorite trade show event ever! We debuted our FW19 collection to our wholesale stockists and were treated to an unforgettable boat ride with our fellow Shoppe Object vendors in the NYC harbor! We’re looking forward to participating in many more Shoppe Object shows in the new decade.
NEW WEBSITE!In 2019 we took on the incredible task of transitioning to a new website. We spent the spring and summer working to launch the new site in time to introduce our Fall collection, all hands were on deck! Among the many features of our new site are a beautiful, user-friendly design, updated organization and product filtering, an option to purchase pillows with or without the insert, an easy to use Stockists + Showrooms map, and for the first time a rewards program! We love our new site and hope you do too!
This fall Coral & Tusk went CAMPING! Our Fall 2019 collection was drawn from the all-encompassing landscape of Stephanie’s Western Wyoming home! The collection features pillows, table linens, and stationery embroidered with canvas tents, adventurous woodland animals and found feather collections.
Wyoming PhotoshootFor the Fall 2019 collection our Brooklyn team went on location to Stephanie’s backyard! We photographed our designs with the most amazing backdrop this earth has to offer, the Grand Tetons! We spent a day on Snake River Ranch with the Silver Bungalow Airstream capturing the landscape that inspired our collection. We were also so fortunate to photograph the new collection in a beautiful chalet located near the Bridger Teton Forest.
Our week in Wyoming was one for the books! Although we were working we made sure to spend plenty of time enjoying the scenery, fresh mountain air and having fun with Fuji, Stephanie’s dog. You can read more about our trip along with a Jackson Hole travel guide on our Behind the Scenes blog post.
Stephanie Visits IndiaIn October Stephanie traveled to India to visit Yukti and our production partners. Her visit coincided with Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, which made for an incredible experience and amazing photos she shared with the team. We look forward to developing new designs and products with our partners in 2020.
Christmas CollectionIt wouldn't be a Year in Review without a Coral & Tusk Christmas! Our 2019 Holiday collection featured the legendary Poinsettia, a new series of stockings and welcome additions to our line of well-loved pocket pillows. View the entire Holiday 2019 Look Book here!
